Additional Information - Register early, space is limited - Please be on time for departure.
(All times except departure times from Wichita are approximate.)

Registrations for all 4 trips may be paid in advance.
You are welcome to bring coffee and/or bottled water on board. None will be provided. Be aware that most coaches do not have tray tables or cup holders. Inexpensive cup holders can be purchased at various dollar stores.

Guests of Shepherd’s Center members are welcome. Adults only, please.

**Our day trips are conducted via motor coach. Participants need to be able to get on and off the 
coach with little or no assistance. Once out of the coach and into a venue such as a restaurant, museum, etc., they must be able to walk the equivalent of 1/4—1/2 mile, climb a flight of stairs and walk on uneven pavement unassisted. Please consider your own capabilities as you decide whether or not to participate. Shepherd’s Center of West Wichita is not responsible for participants’ first-aid or other medical care as trip directors are not medically trained to deal with these matters.

 

Thursday, September 13, 2018 – Ellinwood Underground Tunnels & Fort Larned, Kansas

  • 7:45 a.m.  Depart from Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 8021 W. 21st, park on west  side of parking lot.  Break along the way.
  • 10:15 a.m.    ** Arrive Ellinwood—guided tour of two stretches of underground tunnels where shops were housed below the ground level stores & a complete tour of the 1894 historic Wolf Hotel. Tour will include 1887 Tom Drake’s Harness Shop, Bath house, Jung’s Barber Shop, etc.  * There will be some stairs going down & coming up. No elevator.
  • Noon ** Lunch at Historic Wolf Hotel—choose entrée on registration form, please.
  • 1 p.m.  Leave Ellinwood
  • 2 p.m.  ** Arrive at Ft. Larned for guided tour of one of the best-preserved western forts of the 1860s.  Nine of ten original sandstone buildings are preserved.
  • 4 p.m. Leave for Wichita (break along the way)
  • 6:30 p.m.   Approximate arrival back in Wichita

Thursday, June 14, 2018 – Topeka, Kansas

  • 7 a.m. Depart from Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 8021 W. 21st, park on west side of parking lot 
  • 8:15 a.m. Break along the way
  • 10-11:15  a.m. ** Tour the Evel Knievel Museum
  • 11:30-12:30  p.m. ** Lunch at Golden Corral
  • 1-2 p.m.   **  Tour the National Guard Museum
  • 2 p.m. Leave for Wichita
  • 3:15 p.m. Break along the way
  • 5 p.m. Approximate arrival back in Wichita

Thursday, July 12, 2018 – Hutchinson, Kansas
Maximum number of participants is limited to 39

  • 7:45 a.m.  Depart from Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 8021 W. 21st, park on west side of parking lot
  • 8:45 a.m.  ** Arrive at Hutchinson Salt Mine & Museum. Bring jacket to accommodate tunnel temperature of 68 degrees. Hard hat mandatory. No smoking, food or drink allowed.
  • 12:15 p.m.  ** Lunch Buffet at Airport Steakhouse includes BBQ pork ribs, baked BBQ chicken, fried chicken & salad/fruit bar. Drinks provided with coupon.
  • 1:45 p.m. **  Arrive at Hutchinson Cosmosphere
  • 2 p.m.   ** Museum Self Tour
  • 3 p.m.    ** Dr. Goddard’s Lab Show
  • 4 p.m. ** American Musical Journey Digital Dome Show
  • 5:15 p.m. Return to Wichita
  • 6:30 p.m. Approximate arrival back in Wichita

Thursday, August 9, 2018 – Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
 

  •  7 a.m.  Depart from Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 8021 W. 21st, park on west  side of parking lot. (break along the way)  
  • 10  a.m.  **  Arrive at Museum of Osteology—the first museum of its kind in America focusing on form & function of the skeleton system. There are 100s of skulls & skeletons from all over the world. Exhibits include adaptation, locomotion, classification and diversity of the vertebrate kingdom.
  •  Noon  **  Lunch at Bricktown Brewery and shopping
  • 2 p.m. Leave for Oklahoma City Museum of Art
  • 2:15 p.m. ** Arrive Oklahoma Museum of Art—we’ll be viewing the Chihuly Glass Exhibit, one of the largest collections in the world. Dale Chihuly is regarded as the most important artist working in glass since Louis Comfort Tiffany. This collection represents over 3 decades of Chihuly’s finest work.
  • 4:15 p.m. Leave for Wichita (break along the way)
  • 7:15  p.m. Approximate arrival back in Wichita
