Share Your Experiences, Talents
Shepherd’s Center of West Wichita is a volunteer organization. Volunteers planned, organized and are now operating this organization. New volunteers – perhaps you – are needed including leaders, creative thinkers, organizers and individuals willing to do many other important things.
Share your experiences and talents with Shepherd’s Center. To volunteer or to discover how you might help, phone Judy Castor, volunteer coordinator, at (316) 680-1214. Or, contact the Shepherd’s Center office at (316) 721-2208. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Current Volunteer Needs
Adventures in Learning Committee needs members who have ideas for interesting speakers/topics. Members contact and then introduce presenters.
ADVENTURES IN LEARNING sessions run smoothly as volunteers help with name tags, setting up for lunch, greeting participants, and even helping with cleaning up.
The Coffee Café relies on volunteers to bring snacks as well as set up.
Help is needed for promotion, marketing, picture taking and fundraising.
Could you staff the Shepherd’s Center office for a morning or afternoon 3-hour shift? This involves answering the telephone and performing other tasks as outlined. Volunteers also prepare mailings.
Do you have computer skills, perhaps to help maintain the web and Facebook?
Could you help with publishing the newsletter, or even do a display panel?
To summarize, needed are doers, thinkers, and planners. Contact Judy Castor, volunteer coordinator, phone: (316) 680-1214; or the Shepherd’s Center office at (316) 721-2208 email: email@example.com.
Welcome & Needed
Marilyn Murphy Volunteer of the Year
81 Volunteers Recognized at Yearly Event
All of society benefits from the services provided by volunteers, Kathy Hauptman, producing artistic director of the Forum Theatre Company, told those attending the yearly Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon of the Shepherd`s Center of West Wichita (SCWW) November 7.
She pointed out that the Forum Theatre is located in downtown Wichita near where many of the homeless gather.
“I see daily the needs of these people who often are seen sleeping in doorways or in tents along the street,” Hauptman said.
Hauptman then explained how volunteering can be an eye-opening experience as a person truly in need of assistance asked to volunteer at the Forum. What could this person do for the Theatre? The person suggested how he might help. He is now a valued member of Forum’s volunteer group serving in many ways including meeting the public before performances.
“Each volunteer benefits along with the organization and individual serves,“ Hauptman said. “We see this in our company.” She then explained drama through entertainment and education can open the eyes of people to the cultural needs of the community.
Eighty- one volunteers who collectively contributed more than 2,150 hours were honored at the SCWW luncheon. Marilyn Murphy was recognized as the 2019 Volunteer of the Year. Murphy has participated in SCWW programs since the organization was formed in 2005. As a volunteer, she regularly staffs the SCWW office and is responsible for volunteers preparing SCWW mailings.
Special Recognition Awards were presented to Kyle Jacobs and Valle Lang who have organized the Coffee Café at the twice-yearly ADVENTURES IN LEARNING sessions; Kathy Tucker and Mariann Smith who have been responsible for providing blood pressure tests; and Judy Every, SCWW office manager.
