About Us

Who We Are

Shepherd’s Center of West Wichita was founded in 2005 by a group of individuals who saw the need to provide for opportunities for senior adults to develop new talents, learn about new things and make new friends.  It also allowed them to share their own wisdom and expertise.

We are affiliated with the Shepherd’s Center of America with headquarters in Winston Salem, NC.  There are 55 Shepherd’s Centers across the country.

We are a not-for-profit 501©3 corporation.  Support comes from participant fees, cash and in-kind donations, involvement of Sponsoring Congregations and Community Partners, and through services provided by volunteers.

Volunteers develop and manage programs following a structure and method as called for by the bylaws.  There are seven Sponsoring Congregations and three Community Partners who share Shepherd’s Center concept of positive aging.

Our Offerings

Two six week Adventures in Learning sessions are offered yearly.  They are held on Thursdays in the Spring and the Fall.  Two of the informal afternoon groups, wood carving and bridge continue meeting on their own year round.

In addition, monthly Summer Day Trips are offered and are always well attended.

All that we do is planned and carried out by a vast number of committed volunteers.  New ideas and suggestions are always welcomed and encouraged.
