ADVENTURES IN LEARNING and Summer Day Trips are the two ongoing programs. There are also occasional “pop-up” socials or other activities. ADVENTURES IN LEARNING sessions are held in the spring and fall. Each session has activities on Thursdays for six weeks. Mornings include two one-hour interest sessions. There is an optional noon luncheon followed by entertainment. Activities in the afternoon vary ranging from bridge to wood carving. Summer Day Trips are generally conducted in June, July and August. Volunteers have proven to be excellent guides. The comfortable coaches are provided by Village Tours & Travel.

Learning -- And Much More
Shepherd’s Center of West Wichita was established in 2005 by a group of seniors from several congregations who saw the need for an organization to provide for older adults opportunities to develop new talents, learn about new things, make new friends and serve their community. Today Shepherd’s Center of West Wichita is a well- established organization, yet it continues to evolve as participants share their wisdom and expertise.
We are a not-for-profit 501©3 corporation. Support comes from participant fees, cash and in-kind contributions, involvement of Sponsoring Congregations and Community Partners, and through services provided by volunteers. Participants come from throughout Wichita and surrounding communities. When asked about church affiliations, participants have listed more than 40 congregations. Sponsoring Congregations and Community Partners share Shepherd’s Center concept of positive aging.
We are affiliated with the Shepherd’s Center of America, Inc. with headquarters in Winston Salem, NC. There are 55 Shepherd’s Centers throughout the country. Our office is located in the West Heights United Methodist Church building at 745 N Westlink, Wichita 67212.

Volunteers provide the leadership, creativity and skills that make programs and activities relevant to changing times. The bylaws and the Board of Trustees provide a structure and management to ensure the organization focuses on our mission – “Celebrating Our Senior Years with Learning, Creativity and Service.” In 2019 there were 81 volunteers of record. Of course, Shepherd’s Center of West Wichita welcomes new participants; and, we especially welcome new leaders and persons with ideas.
